After the huge success of the first season, the makers of the anime series took the show as a big-screen project. Two compilation films were made, titled Made in Abyss: “Journey’s Dawn” (encompassing episodes 1–8 with news scenes for an introduction) and Made in Abyss: “Wandering Twilight” (encompassing episodes 9-13), were released on January 4, 2019, and January 18, 2019, respectively.
After the release of the first compilation, a sequel was announced, titled “Made in Abyss the Movie: Dawn of the Deep Soul”. The film premiered in Japan on January 17, 2020. In the US, the film was scheduled to release on 11th April 2020, but due to the pandemic, it was delayed. No new release date has yet been confirmed. The ending credits of the film stated, “To be continued”.
Thus announcements made way for another sequel of the series. But the official announcements were unclear, whether the sequel would be another movie or a second season. The fans are still hopeful that another season may be on its way.
The anime series followed the life of an orphaned girl, young girl, Riko, who finds and befriends a humanoid robot Reg and descends with it into the titular “Abyss” that leads deep into the Earth, in hopes of finding her mother. At first, the viewers see how she differs, as she was born in the abyss, but is raised in this world. Not much has yet been officially announced about the plot of the upcoming sequel of the anime, but fans have their assumptions based on the manga series.
The cast of the previous season includes Riko, Voiced by Miyu Tomita, and Reg, Voiced by Mariya Ise.
