This lockdown has left us quite bored, hasn’t it? Well, here we have a series that has a mixture of fantasy, adventure, and dark comedy, followed by some really weird storytelling. So, if you’re in the zone where you’re watching random unicorn videos at 1 AM on YouTube, we’ve got the perfect match for you! “Happy!” is a television series by Syfy which first came out in 2017. It is based on a comic book series of the same name written by Grant Morrison and Derrick Robertson.
Remember “Ted”, that weird yet fun movie featuring Mark Wahlberg and his talking teddy bear? Well, “Happy” takes you one step forward. How? Keep reading to know more!
The series premiered on December 2017, and soon after, in January 2018, the second season was announced. “Happy! Season 2” was released in March 2019 after which the creators decided to cancel the show. As of now, there have been no updates regarding whether there would a Season 3. However, both the seasons are available for you to watch on Netflix!
Christopher Meloni plays the lead role of Nick Sax. The other characters include Ritchie Coster as Francisco Scaramucci, Lili Mirojnick as Meredith McCarthy, and Medina Senghore as Amanda Hansen. Patton Oswalt will be voicing the Happy, the imaginary blue unicorn!
Considering the hype Season 1 created, Season 2 of “Happy!” started on a rather slow note. It had a few storylines trying to work side by side but somehow failed to add up. On one hand, we have Nick trying to change his irresponsible lifestyle and learning how to take care of his daughter. Meanwhile, the “Orcus demon” inside Mr. Blue’s body wreaks havoc inside the prison he’s in. The story also reveals that Officer Meredith gets kicked off the force. Although Meredith starts working as a real estate agent, this is a cover-up for her real mission-destroying Sonny Shine once and for all.
So, who is Sonny Shine? He is the villain of the story who is obsessed with bunnies and is apparently on a mission to “Make Easter Great Again(MEGA)”. Doesn’t make much sense? Well, that’s the beauty of the entire series. It keeps us on our toes even while feeding us a mouthful of gibberish!
As compared to Season 2, Season 1 was way more exciting and fast-paced! We’re introduced to Nick Sax, who’s an abusive alcoholic ex-cop who feeds himself by taking up little jobs as a hitman. However, Nick suffers a massive heartache and when he finally regains consciousness, he starts seeing an over-optimistic small blue unicorn( who looks way too much like a mini Shrek’s “Donkey”) called Happy. Well, that’s a pretty appropriate name for him though, considering he’s always jumping around and irritating the hell out of the grumpy old cop.
However, no one else can see Happy. He explains to Nick that he is the imaginary friend of a little girl called Hailey, who is Nick’s estranged daughter! We find out that Hailey has been kidnapped by a deranged man called ” Very Bad Santa”. ( Oh, yes that’s the name!) Now it’s up to Nick and Happy to save little Hailey from the clutches of the “Villanous Santa”!
Now, that’s a line we never thought we would say! I guess there’s a first to everything!
