A Japanese light novel series by Ichiei Ishibumi, High School DxD, was adapted as anime in 2012. The anime adaptation of High School DxD in Japan premiered on January 6, 2012. The uncensored version was only aired on AT-X, while other streaming platforms aired heavily censored versions of the series.
Season 1 of High School DxD was followed by three other seasons: High School DxD New, High School DxD Born, and High School DxD Hero. Each of the seasons consists of 12 episodes. Making it a total of 48 episodes in the entire series.
Speculations are, that season 5 is in the making. Good news, for die-hard fans of the anime series.
The last episode of season 4, aired on July 3, 2018. Two years later, the fan speculates that season 5 might be in the making. With the release of four seasons of the series, season 5 is not out of the question.
More so, because season 4, of High School DxD, covered volumes 9 and 10. The light novel series consists of 25 volumes. Thus, the anime series has a long way to go, as it is based on the light novel series by Ichiei Ishibumi.
No official announcements have been made regarding the release date of season 5. Neither the creators of the show nor the streaming platforms have made comments, in connection with High School DxD Season 5.
High School DxD revolves around a former all girl’s school, Kuoh Academy, that recently turned into a co-ed school. Apart from this, the academy holds a major secret. Angels, fallen angels, and devils, are a part of the student population. This major secret is unknown to humans. Among these students, is, Issei Hyodo, a human student. He is asked on a date by Yuma Amano. While on the date, she reveals that she is a fallen angel, and Issei needs to die for her. Another third-year student, Rias Gremory, uses her revive card to bring him back. Rias reveals that she is a devil, and since Issei was killed by the hands of Yuma, he has woken up as a devil. Making Issei, a faithful servant to Rias.
Season 4, of High School DxD, consisted of volumes 9 and 10. Fans are assuming and expecting, that season 5, will cover through volumes 11 and 12, out of the 25 volumes in the light novel series.
It is confirmed the news that the anime adaptation will follow through volumes 11 and 12, as the anime adaptations are closely following the manga series of High School DxD.
No confirmations have yet been made, regarding the characters and crew members that might be returning for Season 5.
Expected characters that might be returning are Rias Gregory, Akeno Himejima, Yuuto Kebo, Asia Argento, and Koneko Toujuo. The director of the previous seasons, Yoshifumi Sueda, might return for season 5.
The previous three seasons of the anime adaptation received positive reviews from the audience. Critics praised the visual and the music of the series. Some fans, and reviewers alike, praised the animation quality and voice over of the series.
