‘I Am Not Okay With This’ is an American teenage comedy with a side of mystery. It is the web series adaptation of a comic book written by Charles Forsman.
It is a comparatively new Web Series and a Netflix Original. The series first premiered on 26th February 2020. Netflix had green-lighted the 8-episode production for this series on 12th December 2018. However, only 7 episodes were produced. Johnathan Entwhistle and Christy Hall created the series and Netflix became the primary distributor.
Since it’s been only four months since the premiere, Netlfix might wait for some more time to announce the release of season 2. External factors such as the Corona Virus Pandemic may also delay the release. But we might for sure get a second season!
This story follows a 17-year-old Sydney Novak. She lives with her recently widowed mother and her brother. She lost her father because he suicided. Sydney is angry because nobody is willing to talk to her about her father’s death and constantly fights with her mother. Throughout many mentally disturbing events, Sydney finds out that she has telekinetic powers. She feels very scared and lonely.
In the meantime, she has conflicting feelings for Dina, her best friend. But Dina is dating Brad. This puts Sydney and Brad at odds with each other. At the school dance, Brad finds out Sydney’s journal and exposes her feelings for Dina and her problems at home. Before Brad could reveal her powers, Sydney makes his head explode.
The first season ends with Sydney meeting a mysterious man who tells her that others should be scared of them. Season two will most likely pick up with more information about the mystery man, and the story of how Sydney has her powers.
There is a photograph of Alex Lawther as James and Jessica Barden as Alyssa from “The End of the F***ing World”. This is an easter egg for the fans which symbolizes that the events of the two series are taking place at the same time.
“I Am Not Okay With This” is a story of raw teenage, rebellious and problematic. Many fans feel that’s is not qualified to be a comedy owing to its gloomy nature and all the death. But it is definitely worth a watch! The cast performances will get you addicted to the show and you’d remain wanting more!
