“Anne with an E Season 3”: Will “Anne” return for “Gilbert”? Click to know Plot, Cast, Release Date and more!

There is absolutely no one who does not dig a good romance novel or show. And when the show is an adaptation of a famous novel, well that just seals the deal. Anne with an E is one such period drama adapted from Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables, created by Moira Walley-Beckett. The series first aired on March 19, 2017, on CBC, and on May 12 on Netflix. It ran successfully for three seasons, and there was much scope for a fourth season. Unfortunately, shortly after its latest season’s release, Netflix canceled the series, never to come back and to break fans’ hearts.

We cover everything you need to know about the third season here. So, get on reading!

Anne with an E Season 3: Release Date

The show was renewed for a third and last season in August 2018, releasing on September 22, 2019, on CBC and on January 3, 2020, on Netflix.

Fans are upset about the cancellation of the beloved show. With their clear disappointment and us romantics’ die-hard optimism, they might just pick up the show for a third season. However, this is a long shot. We will keep you updated on any such developments.

Anne with an E Season 3: Cast

The show has a string of talented actors who played their roles throughout the series. Amybeth McNulty played the titular role, Anne Shirley, Geraldine James did Marilla Cuthbert, R.H. Thomson did Matthew Cuthbert, Dalila Bela did Diana Barry and Lucas Jade Zumann did Gilbert Blythe on the show.

Few new additions also starred in the show: Ashleigh Stewart (as a clerk’s daughter) and Winifred Rose (as Gilbert’s love interest).

Anne with an E Season 3: Plot

The story ends on a high cliff with Anne bidding farewell to Green Gables and starting over again at Queen’s College. Matthew dismisses the idea that he will miss Anne while she’s gone, and Diana is forbidden from joining the latter at school. However, these issues resolve when Marilla helps bring Diana’s parents’ minds into sense; at the same time, Matthew confesses to feeling heartbroken over Anne’s near-absence.

Marilla and Matthew learn, on their visit to Mrs. Thomas, about Anne’s parents and a book containing the information about them.

Anne, with an E, touches several social topics, including homosexuality. It also explores quite many romances, of which Gilbert and Anne’s long-time-coming kiss and so forth relationship has been the center of the show. In Season 3, Gilbert breaks off his engagement with Winnie, confessing his love to Anne via letter. Old school, much? But, Anne is apparently upset and tears the paper into pieces. Gilbert reads a letter that Anne had written; Instinctively, he rushes to her house and kisses her goodbye before she leaves for college.

Anne with an E Season 3: Storyline

Let’s go back to the beginning of the show when it all started in 1896 in Green Gables. Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, siblings, decide to adopt an orphan. Matthew is confused when instead of a boy, he is greeted by a talkative, bright, and quite imaginative 13-year-old girl named Anne Shirley. The latter was orphaned when she was a few months old. Since then, she worked as a servant in households before finding herself in an orphanage.

Marilla, however, is not happy and accuses her of stealing her brooch. They send her back to the orphanage, as a result. Anne does not want to go back because of all the bullying she has endured during her time there. Upon discovery that she had misplaced her brooch, the Cuthberts bring her back and welcome her into the family.

Anne, with an E, is available on Netflix and Amazon Prime.
