We don’t think the series we will be covering today needs any introduction. In a short while after its release, fans have gone crazy over its uniquely dense, suspenseful, and time-traveling plot. Guess it already! Yes, we are talking about Dark, the German sci-fi thriller TV series that comes full of mysteries and twists you never could have fathomed. The show had three successful runs; unfortunately, the creators Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese have no plans for a fourth season, which they declared on their Instagram shortly after the release of the third season.
We should respect the makers’ wishes regarding this, shouldn’t we? Here’s everything you need to know about Dark Season 4!
Dark Season 4: Release Date
The show premiered on December 1, 2017, on Netflix, with the second season soon following on June 21, 2019. The third season released only recently on June 27, 2020, unraveling every major mystery the show explored. While it is definitely upsetting to bid the show farewell already, fans can appreciate that the show ended on its own terms. Netflix did not cancel the show.
If the show’s success and numbers mean anything to the creators, there is a chance that Dark may come back with a new season. However, it will be a long time from now, if it ever is announced. The fourth season will most likely surface in the year 2022 or even later. However, don’t keep your hopes too high! For now, that is it for Dark.
Dark Season 4: Cast
If the season is ever renewed, we can expect the same characters on the show. Many characters are portrayed throughout the series by multiple actors at different ages.
Jonas Kahnwald is one of the main characters of the show; he is played, for instance, by Louis Hofmann as a teen, by Andreas Pietschmann as an adult and Dietrich Hollinderbaumer when he is older.
Other characters include: Michael Kahnwald, Hannah Kahnwald, Katharina Nielson, Ines Kahnwald, Ulrich Neilson, Martha Neilson, Noah.
Dark Season 4: Plot
The third season takes place in 1888 and includes parallel realities.
Dark explores stories in different dimension and timeline; with opened doors for time-traveling in the show, there are infinite possibilities of twists, variations, and kickbacks. If season 4 does return, the creators know exactly what can be featured in it. Since there is no limit to time and to the makers’ imagination, there can be a new storyline set in yet another year or a different universe altogether. Hannah’s unborn child, Jonas, is another story that can be explored in a new season. There are also questions unanswered: who is Regina’s father? What was the tunnel of light at the end? We won’t get any answers any soon, because for now, this is the end.
The first season took place in 2019, but also included other timelines expanding as far before as 1986, 1953 and ahead as 2052. The four families’ lives, whom the series revolves around, Kahnwald, Nielsen, Doppler, and Tiedemann, are ridden with secrets that are linked to the children going missing in the German town of Winden. The mystery brings to light the broken relations and dark past of the families that span four generations.
The second season went the same time-breaking path with the stories initially set in 2020, 1987, and 1954, months later from where the first season left off, also taking the future storyline into the year 2053. The second season included a story set in a different timeline, one set in 1921 as well. It continued to explore the mystery of children vanishing and the families’ attempts to reunite with them. The season takes the storyline close to apocalypse which will destroy Winden and its people.
The third season introduces a parallel world: the first world is set in 1888, 1987, 2020, and 2053 and the second world in 2019 and 2052. The characters try to escape the time loop in the third season in the wake of the apocalypse.
Wait till you blow your brains off after reading this! And, watch the entire season to get a hold of yourself. There are things you would not know could happen.
Dark Season 4: Trailer
We have no trailer. Expect a trailer when the season gets green-lit, which is not happening as far as the creators go.
