For fans who were vocally disheartened with the ending of the Games of Thrones, a new novel from George R.R. Martin might just compensate the ill-plotting of the final episode. But, the sixth installment The Winds of Winter is no soon to be available until Christmas, one predicts.
It took him six years to complete A Dance with Dragons, his latest novel. However, he hoped that the remaining two novels will be finished “quicker than this one”. He is known to have caused a stir among the fans with his optimistic guesses at the release date of the novels. Therefore, this time, he has taken a hint from the past and not revealed any potential dates in order to be safe.
What does Martin say about the novel? Will there be a novel soon? Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming novel.
The Winds of Winter: Release Date
The author in an interview confirmed that he has been working on the novel. The book is supposed to be a long one and fans should not expect the release any time soon.
However much the pandemic has caused distress in the lives of people, Martin has been utilizing this time to focus on the novel and nothing else. He is even declining interviews so as to not cause any distractions in his proceedings. This is clearly a reason to celebrate because if this dedication continues, we might have the book on our hands by Christmas this year.
Martin won’t attend the virtual New Zealand Festival Worldcon this year that happens around July 29 to August 2.
Fans are already excited about the prequel that will focus on the rise of the House of Targaryen, set 300 years before the actual series. It is likely to be released in 2022 running for a total of ten episodes.
The Winds of Winter: Characters
The author has confirmed the return of viewpoint characters in the book, The Winds of Winter who are as follows:
Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Arianne Martell, the Greyjoys, Aeron Greyjoy, Theon Greyjoy, Victarion Greyjoy, Tyrion Lannister, Barristan Selmy.
The Winds of Winter: Plot
Martin said, “I’m going to open with the two big battles that I was building up to, the battle in the ice and the battle at Meereen — the battle of Slaver’s Bay. And then take it from there.” Apparently, the last installment did not cover everything he wanted to and he wants the sixth installment to include the parts. Also, the new novel will take place farther north with White Walkers’ presence throughout. Martin also confirmed that the book is not going to be a happy end for many of its characters. The Winter will finally come and it will bring along darkness, death, and doom.
Martin’s hands are full since there remain a series and two movies pending to be released. But that is no reason for fans to be doubtful.
The novel will be here in time for Christmas!
